Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh Completes Perak’s First Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)
The successful completion of Perak’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh marks a major milestone in advancing cardiovascular care in the state. In collaboration with the Ipoh Cardiovascular Society Perak (ICVS), the procedure introduces an advanced minimally invasive treatment option for patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. Led by Consultant Cardiologist & Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Leong Weng San, together with Consultant Anaesthesiologist, Dr. Cheah Pike Kuan, and a multidisciplinary team, the procedure allows patients to receive valve replacement without traditional open-heart surgery, offering benefits such as reduced trauma, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. This achievement reflects Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh’s commitment to bringing advanced heart care closer to the community while continuously enhancing cardiovascular treatment standards in the region.
